How the match is built
Western astrology sorts the twelve signs into four elements and three modalities, and compatibility advice usually starts from there. Signs of the same element are said to share a temperament, fire with air feeds the flame, and earth with water nurtures growth. Fire and water, and earth and air, are said to pull in different directions.
We turn those ideas into numbers in the open, so you can see how every point was earned. The result panel lists the element, modality and opposite-sign contributions beside the final score.
Two worked examples
Aries and Libra: fire and air score 75, both are cardinal signs for another 5, and the two are opposites on the wheel for 10 more. The total is 90, an excellent match. Aries and Cancer: fire and water score 45, both are cardinal for 5, so the total is 50, which needs some work.
Notice that the ranking depends entirely on the rules we chose. Other astrologers weigh the moon and rising signs too, and would get different answers.
Using it well
Most people use compatibility charts to start conversations, tease a friend or reassure themselves. That is a fine use. Try it with a partner, a friend and a family member and compare notes.
If you are making a real decision about a relationship, rely on how the two of you communicate, handle conflict and treat each other. A score derived from birth month cannot know any of that.
Questions people ask
How is zodiac compatibility scored here?
We start from the elements. Two signs of the same element score 80. Fire with air and earth with water score 75, because they are traditionally said to support each other. Fire with earth and air with water score 55, and fire with water and earth with air score 45. Then we add 5 if both signs share a modality and 10 if the signs are opposite each other on the wheel.
Why are opposite signs given a bonus?
Astrologers describe signs six apart, such as Aries and Libra or Cancer and Capricorn, as opposites that balance each other and attract. The bonus reflects that tradition. It is a rule of thumb, not a measurement.
Does the order of the two signs matter?
No. Compatibility here is symmetric, so Leo with Sagittarius gives the same score as Sagittarius with Leo.
Is zodiac compatibility scientifically valid?
No. Studies of couples have found no link between sun signs and relationship success. The scores come from a fixed set of traditional rules, so they say nothing about the two real people. If you are curious, use it as a conversation starter, not as advice.
